The Drabble Day Challenge is a weekly challenge hosted by http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com/ and it involves writing a Drabble (a short story of 100 words, plus or minus 5) based around a particular prompt. This is my entry into this week’s prompt, which is “NUMB”.
Dofinn strolled along the path through the bushes, marvelling at the diversity to be found on the Pth’ash homeworld. The cruiseliner’s briefing had warned of dangerous flora and fauna, but how could this paradise be harmful?
He recalled the sabre-toothed tortoise-like thing, but that was only found on the plains; there were no animals he needed to worry about here. He didn’t notice the way the path seemed to ripple behind him, the bushes in motion.
Dofinn stopped to smell some flowers and the bushes pounced. As the pistils plunged into his flesh and he went numb, he remembered – not just the animals were dangerous!
