The Versatile Blogger Award

Sally Panayiotou at http://sallypanayiotou.wordpress.com has nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award, which is the first mark of recognition that I have received in the world of blogdom and so I am proud to display it at the bottom of my home page. Thank you very much Sally.

The rules of the award are as follows:
Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post (thank you again, Sally)
Share 7 things about yourself
Pass this award along to 15 others
Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award

So seven things about myself…

1) I am, what some people would refer to as, a tattooed freak. Both of my legs are sleeved from ankle to crotch, shoulders and upper arms, 75% of my back (a Frank Frazetta Conan) and I have started a biomechanical-yin/yang-devilbaby/angelbaby-incubator piece that will take up my whole stomach and chest (apart from where I have the branding). The tattoo which means the most to me is the black band with a white “C” on the third finger of my left hand, a ring I will never take off and which matches the “D” ring tattoo on my darling Chantell’s finger.

2) I was a boy scout and I can definitely say that it made me what I am today, willing to go out and try anything, and capable of doing it too!

3) Since September 1986 (when I first left the UK as a volunteer) I have lived in Nigeria, St. Lucia, Guiné Bissau, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa. I am hoping that my Permanent Residence for South Africa will come through by Easter 2012.

4) Apart from writing, I also love to paint. The cover of “8 Million Stories” is an oil painting I did of a bridge in Budapest.

5) Way back in the dim and distant past I trained as a teacher (Design Technology to ‘A’ Level and Physics to ‘O’ Level). I haven’t taught formally since 1989, but it has stood me in good stead for the various training courses that I have had to facilitate over the years.

6) The first three times that I got into a plane I jumped out! I had never flown before experiencing the joys of parachuting as a venture scout.

7) I present a monthly old movie review on the http://www.StarShipSofa.com podcast.

About dmlbooks

Dennis M. Lane is a British writer who left the shores of the UK in 1986 and hasn’t looked back since; he has now lived in South Africa for eleven years. His first poetry collection “8 Million Stories” was published in November 2010, followed by the collection of science fiction poetry and short stories “The Poring Dark” in September 2012 (two of the poems have been nominated for the 2013 Rhysling Award and another for the Dwarf Stars Award), his first novel “Talatu” in March 2013, and “The King’s Jewel” the first book in the five novel “Helix Key” series in August 2013. He is currently working on Helix Key Book 2 and a second collection of short stories (entitled "The Unmedicated"). When not writing, Dennis enjoys narrating and voice acting and recently set up Dramatic Voice Productions in order to take his interest further. To relax Dennis watches old movies from his extensive DVD collection, his three loves being science fiction B movies, Hong Kong martial arts, and anime. He has been presenting “A Review from the Jacaranda City” since May 2011 and has looked at classic old movies from “On The Beach” to “Creature from the Black Lagoon”.
