The Drabble Day Challenge is a weekly challenge hosted by http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com/ and it involves writing a Drabble (a short story of 100 words, plus or minus 5) based around a particular prompt. This week’s prompt was “WIND”.
The moment was near; Brother Ventus lay the old man out on the table. He pulled smoothly on the rope, lowering the crystal casing over his mentor; then he manoeuvred the mask through the airtight port, so that oxygen would trickle into the old man’s lungs.
Brother Ventus operated the vacuum pump and began to evacuate the casing. It was a delicate balance; everything had to reach optimum conditions at the same instant. The rising and falling of his mentor’s chest slowed and, as it stopped, Brother Ventus removed the mask.
At last he would measure the faint wind as the soul rose to heaven…
