The Drabble Day Challenge is a weekly challenge hosted by http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com/ and involves writing a Drabble (a short story of 100 words, plus or minus 5) based around a particular prompt. This week’s prompt was “Race”.
So here it is…
Carter slammed the hatch and spun the locking wheel, through the port he could see Belhaven running towards him…
Turning, he raced for the next hatch. Having just come off shift he was tired, Belhaven was fresh… and crazy.
Progress through the station was slow, maybe too slow, every move accompanied by the alarm’s piercing scream. But he made it.
The last hatch closed, Carter reached the one lifepod that Belhaven hadn’t destroyed. He dived inside and slammed the Emergency Release button.
The countdown reached zero just as the lifepod was flung into space. Behind it, the station blossomed into a silent ball of light.
